Patrick's 77-year wait will end with trip to the sticks
PATRICK McCarthy loves Dublin - so much so that in his 77 years he has never left the capital.
He has, however, travelled along the DART line.
This summer, however, Mr McCarthy, who was born on Thomas Street in 1930, will venture further afield. The Docklands train station opened yesterday is just a ten-minute walk from his home on Oriel Street.
"I have my [free travel] pass and I'll be on the train when the weather gets fine," he said yesterday. "I've never been down the country in my life. The furthest I've been is Dun Laoghaire and Howth.
"I'll go anywhere with a bit of scenery and will have a busy summer, God willing. I'm years living down here, and the station is beautiful. I remember it used to be coalfields, I never thought I'd see the day."
